The base color of Nuummite is charcoal gray to black, and its iridescent colors include red, orange, gold, silver, yellow, green, blue and violet.  Great care has to be takento cut the stone to display the colour. Nuummite is becoming popular as a talisman and as a gemstone.

The hardness is 7 to 7.5.  They are mined in Sir Lanka, Brazil, Africa, United States, Western Australia, Italy, and Afghanistan.
